Yankees Game - the house that Jeter built

One of the greatest things that NYC has to offer is its sports team, and which team is better to celebrate it with than the NY Yankees. I had the privilege to receive free tickets from a close friend of mine to a recent Yankees game played on July 3rd 2010. It was a game against the Blue Jays, whom Yankees had lost to the night before. So it was a day of retribution for the yanks.

It was a day game so my little sister and I arrived at the ball park an hour before game time. Our seats were in section 135, that’s right behind the left field wall. I did not take the time to look at the stadium and went straight to our seats. They were holding batting practice so I was hoping for some fly balls or even one that was thrown into the stands by the fielders; no such luck :(

We got to see many of the players warm up in the field. Gardner and Granderson, two of the outfielders, warmed up right in front of us. Some of the Blue Jays players, including the starting pitcher, warmed up in the outfield as well. Pettitte, the starting pitcher for the yanks, warmed up near the Yankee bull pen which was near right field so I did not get to see him upfront.

The game started off and Yankees fell behind pretty quickly due to a two run homer by the Jays. Yankees were behind until the 3rd inning or so when the Yanks blew the game wide open. It started off with 2 runs batted in, then another 2 runs batted in, which gave them the lead. The next 3 batters reached base and Brett Gardner was up. Lo and behold, he hits his first career grand slam and the lead is now 6 runs. This is how they celebrated it (see the picture to the left).

Well the yanks weren’t done yet. They score another 3 runs for a total of 11 runs in that one inning. You can guess that they won at the end. The rest of the game wasn’t as exciting but that one inning was crazy. All the fans were going wild and jumping up and down at the grand slam.

We decided to get out of our seats and head out around the end of 8th inning knowing that Yanks weren’t going to lose the game. We walked over to the Hall of Heroes and took some pictures and eventually walked out with the crowd. It was jam packed at the train station but it was definitely worth it to go out and see the Yanks win it after the loss the night before. I recommend a Yankees game to anyone who is in town for a few days, the new stadium is a sight to behold and the team is on a roll for a repeat of last October.

Here are the pics from the game:
