Red Tails

Last night I went to watch the movie Red Tails in theater. I was forced into it by a friend who insisted that I would like the movie. I was actually more inclined to go see The Grey or Safe House, but I gave in and went to see this movie.

I have to say that the movie was entertaining and attention grabbing from the beginning. It is about a squadron of African-American pilots from World War II, who were not given the recognition they had deserved for their efforts. The story is inspired by true events and follows the squadron through their various missions from menial tasks such as attacking trucks to eventually bigger and more meaningful missions providing air cover for attacks and landings.

Through the whole movie, the audience is kept in suspense as to when the first fighter would crash and die, or when the first pilot would make a mistake and get blown up into bits. I personally thought that throughout the movie, waiting for the first casualty for the squadron. The whole movie revolves around four pilots of the squadron who fly together and are close friends. The friendships are far from ideal and the pilots are far from perfect in their skills.

However good the movie is, the plot leaves numerous side stories untouched. I have to say that there were various points in the movie where I wished that there were some more explanation to the story behind somethings or some relationships explained and further developed.

Regardless, I have to say it is a must see movie. Here is the trailer, enjoy.
