Restaurant Week NYC: EN Japanese Brasserie

Home Made Tofu was served in this
As some of you may know, the restaurant week is well under way in NYC right now. It will run until Feb 10th. Last night, a few friends joined me at EN Japanese Brasserie in SoHo area. The restaurant week menu was limited in its options but it didn't lack in taste.

We started off with handmade tofu which was very soft and smooth in texture. It was served in a small wooden box with a wooden spoon. Next we got chef's selection of two Kyoto-style appetizers. One was sauteed mushrooms with some kind of sauce and the second dish was string beans with fried tofu. Both of the appetizers were delicious.

Finally the entree was served. All of us went for the lobster tempura and we weren't disappointed. The lobster was served with wasabi and yuzu salt which was kind of a spicy salt. I thoroughly enjoyed the lobster as well as the salt.

Next they served us ongiri (rice cake) and miso soup. I think this was probably the best miso soup I have had in a long time. Finally, for dessert they served us black sesame seed ice cream. I hesitated to take a bite, but once I did, I did not stop eating until I had wiped the plate clean.

I think its safe to say our experience at the EN Japanese Brasserie was well worth it and I definitely look forward to revisiting this place.
